Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another lists everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
