Brian Eno Urges Support to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A charity drive is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort hopes to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down in the wake of a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby encompasses a selection of acclaimed names from the music world. All were part of the September show, which reportedly raised a significant sum for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a team of music creators. The single showcases a fusion of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the initiative have stated that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the region was noted for its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a few million won't make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”
The song is launching on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
