Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

Price's death comes shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles says farewell to a genuine innovator whose legacy on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
