Democratic lawmakers Condemn Trump After He Claims They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials expressed outrage after the ex-president charged a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and asserted they should be taken into custody and sentenced "through capital punishment" following their publication of a controversial video.

The Content That Triggered the Dispute

The recorded message, shared on earlier this week, features six Democratic congress members who formerly acted in defense or defense capacities.

"As we did, you all swore an pledge to protect and uphold this founding document," the officials declared in the 90-second video. "At present, the threats to our constitution are not only from abroad, but from within our own country. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can reject unlawful commands, you can reject illegal orders, you should reject improper directives. No one has to follow directives that break the statutes or our founding principles."

Trump's Furious Reply

The recorded statement reportedly trigger a angry reaction from the ex-president.

On the following morning, Trump posted on his preferred platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another post, he stated: "This is really serious, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their statements cannot be permitted to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent message, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also redistributed a comment that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Representatives React

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Top Democrats issued a combined declaration denouncing the comments.

"Violent politics has no place in America," they declared. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all acted our nation with exceptional loyalty and distinction. We strongly censure Donald Trump's appalling and harmful threats of violence against congressional representatives, and urge House Republicans to vigorously do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to guarantee the security of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these extreme online messages and withdraw his violent rhetoric before he leads to violence," the declaration stated.

Representatives' Defiant Reaction

The lawmakers who were featured in the video also released a declaration.

"We identify as veterans and security experts who value this nation and swore an pledge to protect and defend the founding document of the United States," they declared. "That oath continues forever, and we plan to maintain it. No warning, pressure, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that important duty."

"The most revealing aspect is that the former president deems it subject to penalty by death for us to repeat the law," they continued. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their support as they fulfill their oath to the national charter and obligation to follow only lawful orders. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "The entire nation must unite and condemn the former president's demands for our death and partisan aggression. This is a moment for ethical certainty."

More Partisan Comments

The Opposition leader also condemned Trump's statements and shared on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the President of the United States is requesting the execution of elected officials."

He added: "This is an outright THREAT. All senators, each house member, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should denounce this immediately and without qualification."

The GOP leader supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", characterizing the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This constitutes very harmful, you have important representatives of the legislature telling soldiers to ignore directives, I think that represents historic in American history."

The GOP official also according to sources informed media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the offense of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to analyze the wording and decide all that."

Executive Branch Response

During a executive branch meeting on that day, when inquired by a reporter, "Would the president want to put to death elected officials?", the White House press secretary responded: "No."

"We should understand about what the former president is reacting to," the spokesperson declared. "We see sitting members of the federal government who coordinated to orchestrate a recorded statement to individuals of the national defense, to serving soldiers encouraging them to defy the commander in chief's lawful orders."

She added: "The purity of our armed forces rests on the command structure, and if that structure is violated, it can cause people getting killed, it can lead to chaos, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are basically encouraging."
