Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a "massive" and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
