Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.
“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”
The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as serious yet stable.
“Still unsure,” the coach said. “However, I can share, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”
Authorities issued video stills Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.
The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The assailant escaped.
Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.
“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd hasn’t played in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.
Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on August 2 and had to be helped off.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
