It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, the ones sought by the record chasers, are what's still available for a team that has achieved everything.

That it took as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, taking back their record for the largest in the female 50-over format, is, in truth, a testament to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over five decades.

It's difficult for their batters to maintain a record if never given the chance.

Finally, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was leader Alyssa Healy being given a chance to produce her newest gem.

Originally famous as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her first appearance and seven global championships have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the successful run.

That loss "motivated us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

If this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Certain people claim the case for the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this knock followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in training, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed my form was missing completely," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your fighting spirit activate and you simply focus on the match."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in succeeding legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, fallen to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there the batsman was in motion.

"A chance to take the field and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

Once she was out Australia needed 66 additional runs at run per delivery - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we know we can achieve it."

Those words will be the ultimate thing Australia's opponents at this World Cup want to hear.

During the last week a sense they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this victory coming after success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they left the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at an important competition.

Such is her determination, she later said she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

However although she afterwards confessed those injuries have pushed back thoughts of retirement, this tournament is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
