The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this lovable family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
