The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
