The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.
Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
